Why go to all this trouble and use a cheap boot? All boots are not created equal. A quality boot will last as long as your new roof. Not even caulk or tar will last that long. You should not use tar or asphalt products on plastic or rubber, it will deteriorate them. Lead flashing is a better option, a second option is to use a silicone roof sealant.
