I'd be curious to see the answer. But all support ends for that version on April 9, I just want to but a license of XP, not interested in support, I want to make sure its legal though. Microsoft no longer ships or supports Windows XP and are not selling it to the distributors or OEMs at least in the general market.
I am pretty certain none of them are legitimate. If this is for a home user - well, you are installing an unsupported OS with no patches for years. That would be, IMHO, irresponsible.
If it's for a company, then such licenses would probably not satisfy an audit, should that happen. Thanks for the reply. The computer will be offline, not worried about support. Yes, Ebay copies are probably not legal which is why I do not feel comfortable purchasing it from there. For posterity sake, You can find them on Craigslist in most major metros for sale with someone for both cheap and legit retail copies.
I have to get one for some legacy stuff a few months back and found an old guy selling all his legacy software on CL. Number of new functions included to enhance the experience. WiFi protected access has been updated. More secure surfing assured. Few Vista features backported in this version. Black hole router detection has been turned ON by default.

Tripredacus Posted June 16, Well, that sure is a lengthy process and I'll see what I can do. Thanks for your help. Andromeda43 Posted July 3, Posted July 3, Have you tried, contacting Microsoft, to see if they would be willing to give you some relief?
At the risk of being reprimanded, I won't discuss alternatives. So if you can just get a copy or the loan of a CD of the same version as your key, you could use that to reinstall Windows. Put in your legal key during the install, return the borrowed CD and you're done. But, you must use the same version of Windows as what's stated on the Key label. Posted July 30, I asked the same thing but my topic was closed because???????? I found out the key I had got was a retail.
